BIOGRAPHY

Vanessa Philipp has a versatile approach to interpreting music. Her strong voice and style adapts well to different genres, strong rhythms and melodies. Vanessa has performed and recorded Finnish hits, international musical tunes as well as party music. Over the years, however, rhythm & blues, groove, roots and jazz have gained an increasingly strong place in Vanessa's repertoire.

”My music reflects many different worlds, stages of life and cultures. I don't choose one, I don't define boundaries or styles, but I interpret what my heart says at that moment.”

Vanessa has grown up surrounded by musicians since birth. In her early years, her love for music developed quickly, as musical tunes, Eurovision song contests and pop music of the ‘70s and ‘80s took first little, then young Vanessa with them, building a stronger musical path forward. Vanessa's musical influences in her family and close circle, as well as her versatile musical background and education enabled her to grow into a versatile singer and interpreter of music. The growth continues.

A person does not become ready during his lifetime. We may mature, at least change and adapt, but growth is an eternal learning process.”

Czech-Finnish Vanessa has recorded music in Czech, English and Finnish. The first singles and albums were written by top composers and lyricists in the field - Vexi Salmi, Pertti Haverinen, Kalervo "Kassu" Halonen. Vanessa's recordings also contain many of her own compositions, the most famous of which is "Praha kevät” from the Antaudun album. Recorded in 1997, the album contained a collection of Finnish, Czech and American pop and musical songs:  From the pens of Karel Svoboda, Jaromír Klempíř and Vexi Salmi, to name a few. One of the most popular Finnish songs of all time, Kirill "Kirka" Babitz's "Surun tyurit silmıstäni" can be found on that album in the Czech language as "Tvá láska smutek zahání".

In 1997, Vanessa won the place of best female soloist in the Syksyn Sävel competition with the song "Lomarakkaus" (Lyr. Turkka Mali, Comp./Arr. Pekka Saukkonen). Vanessa Philipp has sung with big bands, various jazz ensembles and pop groups over the years in Finland and abroad.

In 2009 and 2019, she joined many big stars of the Czech music scene at the Amfora Agency's 35th and 45th anniversary benefit concerts in Prague, where she performed the Finnish-language versions of two songs, both originally in Czech, from the Antaudun album: "Antaudun" (originally Jsi můj pán, from the musical "Dracula ") and "Tunteen Simen" (originally Jaromír Klempíř's hit song "Nešlap Nelámej").

Vanessa has presented the national anthems of eight different countries (Finland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Slovakia, Russia, Canada, USA and Latvia) for about 25 years in international roller and ice hockey tournaments, e.g. in the annual Karjala tournaments.

At the moment, Vanessa is realizing one of her oldest dreams: a benefit concert for children, young people and families with children in Finland. The concert is scheduled to take place in Helsinki in the fall of 2025.
